Premium Tour: Exclusive behind the scenes guided tour personal tour where maximum 2 people get an intimate experience with fourth generation beekeeper, Noel Leahy. Over a cup of tea, gain insights into the integral role of bees in ancient Ireland, the role of bees in the eco-system and the life of bees. Put on a bee suit to visit the hives with the beekeeper. Learn how the hive works and work closely with the beekeeper including handling and observing the frames of honey with lots of bees. Afterwards, taste diverse honeys and some local foods. Continue with a guided tour of the mountain to see the famine villages and learn of the history of the Sliabh Aughty mountain, followed by a honey beer and honey chocolate tasting.
Bee Tour: In the Sliabh Aughty mountains within an unspoiled landscape of green meadows, wildflowers and boglands, join the Leahy family who are fourth generation beekeepers. Hear about the integral role of bees in ancient Ireland and their continued importance within the modern world’s ecosystem. Put on a bee-suit to watch a beekeeper at work while gaining insights into a bee’s life. Open a hive marvelling at how the process works. See pollen, larvae and maybe even the Queen! End with a tasting of this precious, 100% raw mountain honey, flavoured only by nature and paired with local artisan foods.

You will gain a deep understanding of the importance of bees in the ecosystem, their role in pollination, and the traditional beekeeping practices of Ireland. You’ll also see the inner workings of a hive, the honey-making process, and taste raw mountain honey and other local artisan products.

Yes! The experience is family-friendly, and children will enjoy learning about bees up close. However, for safety reasons, children must be accompanied by an adult and wear protective gear when near the hives.

It is recommended to wear long sleeves, full-length trousers, and closed-toe shoes for protection. A beekeeper suit will be provided for the hive visit. Comfortable outdoor clothing is advised, especially for the mountain tour.

If you have a known bee sting allergy, it is not recommended to participate in the hive visit. However, you may still enjoy the storytelling, honey tasting, and learning about beekeeping from a safe distance.
